Discover this performative installation during the first part of the opening night. The doors will open at 8:30pm and tickets are available here.

This installation by Philip Vermeulen is an immersive visceral acoustic instrument. Two heavy duty shooters are shooting balls up to 150 km/h, 14 meters through the air, smashing on two soundboxes. The balls hit back inside the resonating catchers, back in the system. Therefore Physical Rhythm Machine shoots different compositions: funky rhythms by Vermeulen and algorithmic non-metric ‘rhythms’ by the machine itself. It shoots the compositions in bitter violence which is made visible while resonating the space and the bodies of the audience.

Philip Vermeulen is a young upcoming artist from The Hague. He studied at the ArtScience Interfaculty at the Royal Conservatory & The Royal Academy of the Arts, The Netherlands. Vermeulen discovers primary phenomena in all kinds of different media: sound, light, physics, and nature. He starts fight and play with them, isolates the things he sees and tries to tame and compose with these characteristics. He builds setups and immersive installations of provoking experiences, which question the senses of the viewer by transporting them in another world.

This project is made possible as part of the Summer Sessions network with V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, with generous support of the Creative Industries Fund (NL).
